The Nicolò Isouard Philarmonic Society of Mosta will mark the start of the calendar year leading up to the 400th anniversary of the founding of the Mosta parish with a concert of light music
A hymn in honour of the parish’s 400th anniversary aptly titled 400 Sena Parrocca composed by the society’s musical director Mro Emanuel Spagnol will be executed during the night. The hymn, whose lyrics were penned by Manwel D. Schembri will be sung by Soprano May Caruana and Tenor Joseph Grech.
The night will include various popular pieces such as a selection of popular tunes by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart named Magic of Mozart and Il Meglio di Lucio Battisti, a selection of songs penned by Lucio Battisti. Queen’s hit Bohemian Rhapsody and Music by John Miles will also be featured.
The Blue Danube and Thunder and Lightning Polka, two popular works by Johann Strauss II will also be played.
These will be followed by a selection from Franz Lehar’s popular operetta The Merry Widow. Soprano Elaine Borg and tenor Bernard Busuttil will be accompanied by the Nicolò Isouard Philarmonic Society.
The concert will be brought to an end with the ever so popular Radetsky March by Johann Strauss I.
The concert will be held on Saturday at the Lily of the Valley Secondary School main hall. Patrons are advised to be seated by 7.15pm.
