A band club yesterday filed a judicial protest in the First Hall of the Civil Court claiming that it is the oldest band club in the island and formally called on another band club to stop claiming that it was founded first.
The secretary of the association of the San Filep Musical Band Club, Tarcisio Mifsud, filed a protest against the president and secretary, Neville Muscat, of the band club L'Isle Adam.
In the writ, Mr Mifsud said that, on a television programme aired on 16 December on PBS, Mr Muscat had declared that the musical band club L'Isle Adam, together with the band club De Rohan from Zebbug, are the oldest band clubs on the island because they were founded in 1860 by Indri Borg.
Mr Mifsud said that this was not true as the San Filep band club is the oldest club in Malta as can be proved by authentic documents stating that the San Filep band club was already providing musical service in 1851 under the musical direction of Mro Filippo Galea.
Furthermore, he added, in 1857 the San Filep musical band club already had set up its headquarters in 52, Parish Street, Zebbug.
As a result, said Mr Mifsud, the L'Isle Adam band club has to stop stating that it is the oldest band club in Malta.
Dr Anna Mallia and Dr Nadine Farrugia signed the writ.
