The European Parliament’s Socialist Group is holding its leaders’ meeting in Malta on Tuesday and Wednesday in the same week that the Malta Labour Party is holding its annual general conference.

The Socialist Group meeting is being held at the invitation of MEP Louis Grech, made as the head of the Labour Party’s delegation at the European Parliament, after discussions that the European Parliament’s Socialist Group leader, Martin Schulz, had with Labour leader Alfred Sant, during a visit he made in Malta last November.

The meeting in Malta will bring together leaders from the Socialist Group as well as all the heads of the Socialist Party’s delegations represented in the European Parliament.

The visitors will include Mr Schulz and the head of the European Socialist Party, Poul Nyrop Rasmussen, who is also a former Prime Minister of Denmark.

The extended bureau of the Socialist Group will be discussing the priorities of the Group for this year within the European Parliament, among them the European Commission’s programme and the Slovenian Presidency.

The meeting is being organised with the help of Labour’s delegation in the European Parliament.
