Abdul Hamed Tlass, a 22-year-old Syrian was jailed for 18 months after he pleaded guilty to attempting to break out from the Ta’ Kandja Accommodation Centre while his 27-year-old brother Abdul Majid Tlass pleaded guilty to aiding him.
The attempted break took place on 15 January around 7pm at the Ta’ Kandja Accommodation Centre where Hamed was being detained.
Before magistrate Giovanni Grixti, Majid, who is married to a Maltese woman, also pleaded guilty to breaching the conditions of a suspended sentence and was jailed for 20 months.
Police Inspector Edel Mary Camilleri prosecuted.
