Gift of Life are announcing a temporary pause in the campaign for the right to life to be clearly given to the unborn child through the Constitution of Malta.
“We have been lobbying for four years for this to happen. The Maltese people have made their opinion on the matter very clear from the beginning with an overwhelming majority of the population being in favour of this amendment. We have collected 36,000 signatures as well as the signatures of 40 MPs calling on the government and the opposition to work together to have this amendment made to the constitution. The petition was presented to Parliament in December 2007,” Gift of Life said.
But the organisation said it has seen no movement on the matter in recent weeks and given the proximity of the upcoming election, “we feel that it is wisest to temporarily place the campaign on hold until after the general election.
“We do intend to take up the matter with the next legislature hopeful that better progress will be made. We wish to thank everyone who signed the petition and those who approve of this amendment for their continuous support for the better protection of our islands from legalised abortion in the future.”
