HSBC’s Gozo Service Centre was officially inaugurated last week. Intended to support the bank’s Maltese operations, this Service Centre will employ 50 staff on a full-time equivalent basis in addition to the 42 staff already employed by HSBC in Gozo. In total, HSBC now employs 92 in Gozo.

The official inauguration at Xewkija Industrial Park in Gozo was held in the presence of the Minister for Investment, Industry and Information Technology Dr Austin Gatt, the Minister for Gozo Giovanna Debono, and HSBC Chief Executive Shaun Wallis.

HSBC Malta’s latest initiative, over and above the Swatar Call Centre where HSBC is also now employing 500 new, full time employees, will see an investment in the region of EUR800,000 (Lm343,440) and annual recurring operational costs of EUR1.2 million (Lm515,160). Capital expenditure covers property refurbishment, fittings, IT systems, telephony and office equipment were all procured locally and the main operational cost relates to salaries and services. The transformation of the disused former building into a fully-fledged and fully operational Service Centre incorporating an Operations Centre and a Call Centre was done in the very short span of 15 weeks, with 10 kilometres of cable laid out. The bright and airy offices of the Service Centre have state-of-the-art technology. Construction, mechanical and electrical works have been awarded to Gozitan companies who have done a very good job.
