After reaching consensual agreement during the National Conference for Health and Security organised by the General Workers’ Union (GWU) last week regarding the setting up of an ad hoc committee, the Turu Micallef Institute for Health and Security officially invited employers’ groups and unions so send two representatives to be part of this committee.

The job of the ad hoc committee is to prepare within three months an awareness campaign and practical and strategic prevention plan to be implemented. This proposal which was made by the President of the GWU Mr Salv Sammut, who is also the Chairman of the Turu Micallef Institute, aims for the employers’ groups and unions to sit together with the Health and Security Authority and create concrete proposals in order to reduce the number of fatal accidents and serious injuries in the working place.

The invitation was made to the Federation of Industries, the Employers’ Association, the Confederation of Trade Unions, and the Health and Security Forum and Authority. Thus the GWU is making sure this committee is organised as soon as possible and functioning as had been agreed.
