The document asks political parties to commit themselves to genuine aid, support and opt for fair trade where possible, support development education initiatives, ensure real participation of civil society organisations and to commit themselves to place policy coherence for development high on the agenda.

The platform calls on the parties to include a commitment to real and genuine aid in their electoral programme, to commit to promote fair trade as an effective tool; to provide 'Aid for Fair Trade' in the form of specific calls for proposal with fair trade as one of the priority themes, to commit themselves to a multi-actor process, making best use of shared expertise and experiences, with a view of establishing a national strategy on development education and of embedding development education and awareness-raising in relevant national policies.

The Platform also called on the parties to commit themselves to ensure real participation of civil society organisations, such as the Platform, in any policy and action plan pertaining to development, and to share analyses with NGDOs through regular meetings. The parties, it added should commit themselves to place policy coherence for development high on their agenda and to effectively avoid policies that affect development objectives negatively.

The Platform was founded on 26 June, 2001, and has as members Camyouths, Forum for Justice and Cooperation, Inizjamed, Integra Foundation, Jesuit Centre for Faith and Justice (Malta), Jesuit Refugee Service (Malta), Kare4Kenya, Koperattiva Kummerc Gust, Kopin, Moviment Graffitti, Share Foundation, and Third World Group.
