Last term, as part of their PSD studies on community care, San Anton School Grade 9 students organised a number of fund-raising activities during their lunch break in aid of a charity or support fund.
In the run up to the Christmas holidays, they gave up their recreational time to run “bake sales”, selling home-made mince pies, mouth watering cookies and hot drinks. They also took the initiative to organise football and basketball tournaments to help raise further funds.
Thanks to the generosity of all, the students collected the sum of e460 which was recently presented by the children to Rita Allen and Maryrose Bugeja from Puttinu Cares – a children’s cancer support group.
Thanking the students for their generosity, Ms Allen, Nursing Officer from the Paediatric Oncology Ward at Mater Dei Hospital, told them that the money donated would be used in its current campaign to purchase three apartments in Sutton, United Kingdom.
These apartments will ease the lives of the families of children undergoing treatment at Royal Marsden Hospital.
