Work has started in Mellieha on a road building programme for residential streets in Sta Marija Estate, Ghajn Zejtuna, which Roads Minister Jesmond Mugliett visited yesterday.
In all 19 residential streets will be built, costing e1,677,150 (c. Lm720,000), after agreement with Cenmed Ltd, which developed the Sta Marija Estate area between Mellieha and Selmun.
The roads being built are Triq il-Palm, in-Nixxiegha, il-Hlewwa, l-Hena, l-Ghaqda, is-Sliem, il-Pont, l-Alwetta, il-Gojjin, Fuq il-Widien, ix-Xaghra, ta’ Barra, il-Gardell, Dahlet id-Dalji, ir-Rundun, Dahlet is-Sardinell, il-Bufula, il-Bilbla, iz-Zebbug and l-Qortin.
The works are being carried out under six period contracts and should be completed by the end of the year. They are not in the programme in which 470 residential roads are being built in all, costing some e21 million (Lm9 million), which started in August 2006 and should also be concluded towards the end of the year.
630 residential streets in 47 localities have been built during this legislature, costing some e28 million (Lm12 million).
