Professor David J. Attard, President of University Council and Head of Department of International Law, has been appointed “Professor Invité” at the University Pantheon Sorbonne (Paris 1).

He will be lecturing to post-graduate law students who are reading for their Masters degree in international law. The subject of his lectures relates to the “international legal regime regulating the exploration and exploitation of non-living marine resources”. He will focus particularly on the sovereign rights accorded to coastal States to explore oil and gas resources found on the continental shelf.

Professor Attard has written extensively on the subject and his book, The Exclusive Economic Zone in International Law, was published by Clarendon Press of the University of Oxford and won the Guggenheim Prize for international law.
