The Water Services Corporation would like to inform the public that the recent water supply problems in various parts of Gozo are being tackled, and that works to replace a faulty nine-inch main are expected to start soon.

Residents in the Xewkija, Fontana, Rabat and Tac-Cawla areas suffered extended water cuts lately because the water main, rather than being buried just under the surface, was in fact buried so deep that technicians using special listening devices could not trace the leak.

This extreme depth was due to soil and other material being deposited by unknown persons over a period of years which the Corporation was unaware of. Although temporary repairs were carried out, the water main will be replaced in the near future.
