As an initiative towards promoting environmentally friendly measures, GasanMamo Insurance in conjunction with Edible Oil Refining Company Ltd, organised a lottery with six e116.47 (Lm50) vouchers of Bio Diesel fuel for customers renewing their motor insurance policy between the months of July and December 2007.

As Malta’s leading motor insurer, GasanMamo Insurance wanted to encourage motor vehicle users to consider alternative energy sources and reduce dependence on fossil fuels. Bio-diesel is a diesel-equivalent, processed fuel derived from biological sources, such as vegetable oils, which can be used in unmodified diesel-engine vehicles.

It typically produces about 60% less net carbon dioxide emissions than petroleum-based diesel, as it is itself produced from atmospheric carbon dioxide via photosynthesis in plants. Company cars at GasanMamo Insurance run on bio-diesel.

Other eco-friendly measures taken by GasanMamo Insurance are the re-filling of printer and fax cartridges, the use of water from the air conditioning system for the flushing system, recycling of paper, when possible, the installation of energy saving lights and car pooling between the staff members of the company.
