Heritage Malta has confirmed GasanMamo Insurance as the official patron and as the sponsor of Heritage Malta’s education programme at the Palace Armoury. This was announced during a visit to the Palace Armoury by Albert Mamo, managing director of GasanMamo Insurance. During the visit Mr Mamo presented a cheque for e11,646, as the third installment of a three year programme of support for Heritage Malta.
“We feel that as GasanMamo Insurance, it is our responsibility to support our cultural heritage. It is only through such corporate initiatives that such heritage may be protected for future generations,” Mr Mamo said.
GasanMamo Insurance this year is also sponsoring the Young Knights programme. This includes the publication of educational workbooks and replicas of parts of the suit of armour which can be handled by students during educational visits to the Palace Armoury. Heritage Malta has produced workbooks in Maltese and English for both primary and secondary school students. The workbooks contain tasks that can be carried out by the children within the museum during the school visit. Prior to the visit, teachers are given a resource book as a means of class preparation before the children visit the Armoury. The handling of the replica artefacts is important as it brings the children in close proximity with the properties and material of the time. The Palace Armoury is visited by hundreds of students every month, many of whom take part in this educational programme.
Mario Tabone, chairman of Heritage Malta, said the support of GasanMamo Insurance will help the Palace Armoury to upgrade its displays and provide an educational experience to children that will instil in them a love for Maltese heritage.
