Bank of Valletta (BOV), which aims to plant 50 trees in every locality in Malta and Gozo, has planted another 300 trees at six localities. Since the initiative was launched, in August last year, a total of 800 trees have been planted at 16 localities.

“This environmental initiative is being very well received both by our employees at our branches as well as by the local community in the localities that are being embellished through the planting of the new trees being donated by Bank of Valletta,” said Karl Spiteri, manager responsible for the bank’s community programme.

“We are pleased with the strong level of cooperation being extended to us by the local councils with whom we are identifying the precise areas where the trees we are donating are being planted,” added Mr Spiteri. He said this was yet another community initiative that the bank is undertaking, underlining the bank’s active involvement within the communities in which it operates.

The new localities to benefit from the tree planting initiative were Mdina, Xghajra, Kalkara, Rabat, Swieqi and Mqabba.

At Mdina, the trees were planted at Howard Gardens, contributing towards the embellishment of this popular spot while in Swieqi, the trees were planted in the Wied Ghomor valley, another sought after location with families as a picnic area.

The trees at Rabat were planted at the picturesque site popularly known as “Id-Dwejra” – a highly protected and very sought after area with the Maltese, especially on Sundays and public holidays.

At Kalkara, the trees were planted in idyllic areas surrounded by historic fortifications while areas that are being embellished were selected at Xghajra and Mqabba. The trees being planted include olive, carob, sandarac pine, oak and aleppo pine, which are all indigenous.
