Spiral Launches Malti9 product

Malta Independent Sunday, 3 August 2008, 00:00 Last update: about 19 years ago

GO is supporting Spiral, the Junior College based company that won this year’s HSBC Junior Achievement Young Enterprise award. GO will be giving the technical and IT support necessary via its mobile arm GO Mobile to launch Spiral’s innovative and highly intelligent product for text messaging – Malti9 – locally and abroad.

Malti9 is a Java application software for mobile phones using the Maltese language dictionary. Spiral’s main objective in opting for Malti9, was specifically to promote their native language, Maltese. The product is considered essential for customers wanting to compose an SMS using a Maltese-aided dictionary in-built inside the mobile phone.

This is the first time that a Maltese directory and texting tool is available on the local market for mobile phones. The motivating force that led to the creation of Malti9 was an assumption that the Maltese public does not make use of T9 software since the software is not yet available in Maltese. The Spiral winning team has succeeded in disproving this and, thanks to Spiral’s high-tech creation, T9 formerly available in 70 languages, has now added on its 71st language – Maltese.

As a gesture of appreciation and support for the winning team’s achievement on the local front, GO sponsored the team’s visit to Sweden where Spiral represented Malta in the Junior Achievement Young Enterprise European contest.

In the HSBC JA-YE Malta contest, Spiral were nominated for six out of eight awards, and won: Best Use of Innovation, Best Use of Technology, Best Product and the coveted Company of The Year award.
