Johnny Fenech has been appointed Master Group’s new wine adviser. Johnny will be responsible for promoting all Camilleri Wines’ brands of locally produced wines and all Master Group’s portfolio of imported wines internally and externally. He will be involved in the selection of imported wines sold from Master Cellars and especially in the implementation of new projects by Camilleri Wines.
Johnny attended the “Food and Beverage Service and Management” full-time course at the Institute of Tourism Studies during which he had a work placement at the Hilton Malta for 18 months. Following this experience, he pursued his school internship in Scotland, working for a whole year at the famous Gleneagles Hotel. During that time, he also worked for five months as a sommelier and attended two Wines and Spirits Education Trust courses. Back in Malta, Johnny was employed for two-and-a-half years at the then renowned Mange Tout restaurant in Xemxija as headwaiter and sommelier.
Following Mange Tout, Johnny went to work abroad, specifically to pursue the career of a sommelier by dealing and serving wines at Auberge du Lac Restaurant, which is part of Broket Hall.
The famous French chef Jean Christoph Novelli was in charge of the restaurant and the talented Italian sommelier Luca Ravagnati was responsible for the 650 bin wine list.
Back in Malta, Johnny started working at the Radisson Golden Sands Resort and Spa as headwaiter and sommelier. After six months he was promoted to Restaurant Manager of the Essence Restaurant. The latter won two prestigious awards for two consecutive years namely, the Best Overall Restaurant in Service award and the Best Overall Food award in The Definitive(ly) Good Guide to Restaurants in Malta and Gozo. Essence was also awarded for its wine list.
