The Embassy of Portugal, in collaboration with the St James Cavalier Centre for Creativity, presents As Duas Faces Da Guerra (The Two faces of War). Screening at St James Cavalier Centre for Creativity, Valletta, on 27 October at 6pm, followed by dialogue session with the participation of documentary director Diana Andringa. As Duas Faces Da Guerra is a 2007 film with a duration of 1h41. An LX Filmes documentary, it was directed by Diana Andringa and Florentino Flora Gomes and produced by Luís Correia in Portugal. It was filmed in Portuguese and subtitled in English.

In 1963, the PAIGC - the African Party for the Independence of Guinea-Bissau and Cape Verde – embarked upon a struggle for the liberation of these countries from Portuguese colonial rule. The PAIGC’s leader, Amílcar Cabral had always made it clear that they were fighting colonialism, not the Portuguese people. And it was in Guinea-Bissau that the Army Movement, that led to the Carnation Revolution in Portugal, was born, in April of 1974. The conflict brought no hate, but friendship.

The documentary attempts to find out how this could happen and projects the conflict as seen through the eyes of some of the direct protagonists of the conflict, scattered throughout Guinea, Cape Verde and Portugal. In doing so it brings to the fore issues such as colonialism, reconciliation and intercultural dialogue.
