Mazda Chairman congratulates Gasan

Malta Independent Sunday, 9 November 2008, 00:00 Last update: about 14 years ago

Another significant anniversary is being celebrated this year apart from the one celebrating the 80th anniversary of Gasan’s appointment as Ford’s Malta franchise holder. 2008 is also remembered for Gasan Enterprises Ltd’s 35-year association with Mazda Motor Corporation.

In a letter, Mazda’s chairman and CEO, Hisakazu Imaki, extended his personal congratulations to Joseph A. Gasan, chairman of Gasan Enterprises, on this auspicious occasion. It was Mr Gasan himself who 35 years ago personally visited Hiroshima and returned with the Mazda franchise.

Mr Imaki said in the letter: “We firmly believe that long-term, stable relationships with our partners are fundamental to the success of Mazda globally. The sales growth that has been achieved in Malta reflects a strong partnership, which combines the commitment and customer focus of your organisation with the exciting ‘Zoom-Zoom’ products we have launched over recent years.

“I understand that sales in 2008 will provide a market share of 3.5 per cent, which represents the best performance in 15 years.”

While thanking Mr Gasan for his “continued support and contribution to the success of Mazda”, Mr Imaki noted: “This month also marks another key landmark for Gasan Enterprises with the completion of the new showroom in Tripoli and the commencement of Mazda sales in Libya.

“This represents a significant commitment by you as the newly appointed distributor, as well as further indication of your confidence in Mazda and the future. I am certain that Gasan Enterprises, along with their JV partner, will develop Mazda sales in this growth market as you have done so successfully in Malta.”

Ian Crawford, Regional Manager of Mazda Motors UK, presented a framed copy of the letter to Mr Gasan during the Gasan 80th reception last month. Mazda also sent a fine cut glass gift with the inscription: “In recognition of your 80th anniversary and 35 years partnership with Mazda. October 2008.”
