Karta Converters, a Maltese company that produces toilet paper, kitchen towel rolls and a wide range of other tissue paper products is celebrating its 35th anniversary with its investment in a new sophisticated fully automatic plant with the latest technology features. This equipment has enabled the company in providing higher-level quality products and added value for money to its customers.
Managing director Wilfred Privitera said the company was formed in 1973 after three small family-run companies merged. Later on another company joined forces with Karta Converters and strengthened its position in preparation for the which eventually came about eight years ago. Since then the company has managed to retain a sizeable market share notwithstanding the fierce competition from imported products. .
Mr Privitera maintains this was achieved because the company always laid emphasis on manufacturing products that compete well both in terms of price and quality. He argued that some competing brands might appear cheaper but actually work out to be more expensive, either because these have less content or are made of inferior quality materials.
The company, which employs 60 people, is facing various challenges particularly in maintaining its production costs at a sustainable and competitive level. With the ever increasing energy and transport costs Mr Privitera said the company is fully aware of the difficult tasks ahead but is very confident that with this latest investment the company will widen its customer base and retain its strong position in the local market.
