Malta Independent Tuesday, 30 December 2008, 00:00 Last update: about 14 years ago

After the absence of several years, Italian operetta singers and a typical operetta comedian will return to Malta in a popular concert entitled “Grand Operetta Evening – Grande Serata all’Operetta”, on Saturday 7 and Sunday 8 March 2009 at the Theatre of the Catholic Institute, Floriana, organised by G&T Productions.

Tenor Marco Voleri from Livorno, soprano Tiziana Scaciga della Silva from Milan and operetta comedian Walter Rubboli from Modena will perform the most popular selections with the local public; they will be joined by tenor Joseph Aquilina and soprano Ruth Sammut Casingena.

The programme includes selections from The Merry Widow; Cin Ci La’; Il Paese dei Campanelli; La Principessa della Czarda; Acqua Cheta; La Danza delle Libellule; la Duchessa del Bar Tabarin; the Zingaro Barone; Al Cavallino Bianco; Scugnizza; Fiore di Hawai and Die Fledermaus. All singers will join forces in the grand finale performing the most popular arias. Each presentation will be made in the typical comic operetta style by comedian Walter Rubboli with his re-enactment of the lively and boisterous operetta atmosphere.

The live orchestra formed by the best local musicians will be conducted by Mro Archibald Mizzi. Artistic direction is by George Micallef.

Comedian Walter Rubboli is the leading “capocomico” of the operetta company at the Rosetum Theatre in Milan and has interpreted the roles of Niegus in The Merry Widow; Petit-Gris in Cin Ci La’; Bouqet Blum in La Danza delle Libellule; La Gaffe in Il Paese dei Campanelli; and Sigismondo and Leopoldo in Al Cavallino Bianco.

Booking is open by calling on: 2123-4555 or 9942-9447.
