The Malta Environment and Planning Authority (MEPA) Board yesterday refused the full development application for the construction of 40 residential apartments and underground parking facilities within the village core of Balzan.
The board felt that this project will contribute towards over-development within Balzan’s open spaces and compromise the character and heritage of the urban conservation area of this traditional village.
On the other hand the MEPA Board unanimously approved the extension of the Ramla Bay Hotel in Marfa. The extension includes the development 102 additional rooms on the existing built-up footprint of the hotel and other landscaping works.
This project will enable the hotel to expand its operation and upgrade its tourism product. The board imposed a condition that ensures that the contribution fees the developer has to make towards the Environment Initiatives in Partnership programme (EIPP) fund will be used in the vicinity of the hotel.
