As part of its 35th anniversary celebrations, Air Malta organised an evening during which it presented awards to its top Cargo customers for 2008.

The activity was held at the Grand Hotel Excelsior last month and was attended by various local cargo agents and courier agents, as well as local companies operating in the export sector. Joe Cappello, Air Malta’s CEO presented the awards.

The award for the Top Cargo Agent 2008 was awarded to BAS Ltd while the award for Excellent Performance in Cargo Traffic was awarded to MAL Services Ltd, SMS Cargo and CACS Ltd. ST Microelectornics (Malta) Ltd, Dedicated Micros (Malta) Ltd and Actavis Ltd were awarded the Top Cargo Shipper Award for 2008. UPS Malta was given the Top Courier Agent for Award 2008 while DHL Express Malta, TNT Express and FeDex GSP Malta were awarded for their excellent performance in Courier Traffic. Lino Bonello of BAS Ltd was honoured with the Long Time Supporting Personality 2008 for his outstanding commitment to the industry and Air Malta all along the years.

During his speech, Mr Cappello thanked Air Malta’s cargo customers for their support and loyalty throughout the years. He said that for 35 years Air Malta has not only supported the development and strengthened the Maltese tourism industry but was also pivotal in the development of the local manufacturing industry. He added that without an excellent distribution network of air links to main European hubs, it would not have been possible for industries such as the microelectronics or the pharmaceutical companies to set up shop in Malta.
