European Regional Development Funds For the building industry

Malta Independent Sunday, 21 June 2009, 00:00 Last update: about 18 years ago

More undoubtedly needs to be done by the building industry to tap ERDF funds, so much so that the concept was the main message that came out at a recent information session held for operators in the building industry a few days ago. The session was organised by the Building Industry Consultative Council in collaboration with Malta Enterprise and Mepa.

The ERDF Innovation Actions Grant Scheme (Environment) supports small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) that develop projects to invest in environmentally sensitive technologies with the objective of improving their environmental performance. Building industry operations like quarries, batching plants and plants manufacturing concrete products could invest, for example, to reduce waste streams, improve water and air quality and reduce resource utilisation.

The scheme will co-finance costs for environmental certification, plant, machinery and equipment, together with technology licensing costs. The second call for applications under this scheme is currently open and closes on Friday 31 July at noon. Coming up with a feasible project is not always easy. For this reason Malta Enterprise offers the services of an environment business adviser to develop a report for the potential applicant to develop a project proposal under the scheme.
