Over the weeekend the Marsa C.C took on returning Stockport Grammar School who are on their ninth tour.
On Saturday Stockport won the toss and elected to bat. J. Jones and E. Martin opened the batting with Martin being the firsy one to go scoring eight runs. Jones went on to make 30 runs. C. Dewee scored 26 runs, L. Isherwood 11 runs, B. Barlow 18 runs.
J. Needham top scored with 57 runs not out and S. Lynch made a useful 25 runs towards the end of the innings.
Stockport totalled 202 runs from their allotted overs. For Marsa, Mike Caruana was the main wicket taker with three wickets while Andy Naudi and Kevin Krishna both took two wickets each.
In reply Marsa were off to a flyer scoring 50 runs from the first six overs with Chris Naudi providing the action and finally being caught for 39 runs. Nowell Khosla played a superb innings top scoring with 65 runs, Firoz made 21 runs while Mike Caruana scored 17.
It was left up to Ronnie Sacco, 13 not out, and John Grima, two not out, to make the winning runs with two overs to spare.
For Stockport J. Needham was their main wicket taker with two.
Marsa win the first game of the series and the first win against Stockport in three years.
On Sunday Stockport won the toss again and elected to bat first. They totalled 206 runs from their allotted overs with M. Barber top scored with 54 runs, J. Marshall 33 runs and T. Isherwood 31 runs. Nowell Khosla was the main wicket taker for the home side with four wickets while Andy Naudi and Ronnie Sacco both took two wickets each.
The Marsa reply started off badly with Khosla being caught for no runs. Tosif Patel played an excellent innings of 60 runs before being bowled. Mark G. Sacco scored 19 runs, Javed Shah 38 runs and Andy Naudi 18 runs.
This left 47 runs for Ronnie Sacco (41 not out) and Mike Caruana (20 not out) to finish off the Stockport attack with only five balls in innings to go. For Stockport J. Jones was the main wicket taker with two.
Marsa win their first series against Stockport Grammar School since 2004, two to nil.
The previous Wednesday the Marsa team played against new comers Marple C.C in a 20 over game. Marple batted first and totalled 165 runs with W. Parr top scoring with 52 runs, J.Hirst 32 runs and L. Greasley 30 runs.
For Marsa Sarfraz Ali was the main wicket taker with three. The Marsa team could only manage 121 runs in reply with Nowell Khosla scoring 23 runs, Tousif Patel 33 and Mark G. Sacco 20.
For Marple, M.Barrow was the main wicket taker with four and L.Greasley took three. Marsa lose their first 20 over game this year
