The well sought after MDRA night event took place last weekend, kicking off on Friday night with a thunderous event full of adrenaline.
Vehicles from all over the island performed in front of a numerous crowd of enthusiasts that flocked to the Hal-Far raceway to watch these speed demons. Once again it was the Maksar Racing Team truck (photo) that managed to steal the show.
With new modifications on trial, the team dedicated most of its time on set-up. From the first run, things looked promising as a new top speed record of 136mph was achieved. On the second run of the day, elapsed times got closer to the nine second barrier, with a record breaking 10.1 second run. That’s 0.3 of a second faster than the previous record, in a sport measured in milliseconds it is considered as a huge step .
Another amazing result was achieved when the team decided to challenge the clock running the truck on diesel fuel only without the use of NOS: roaring down the track the clock stopped at 10.5 sec at 130 mph.
The team is not yet convinced they have taken the outmost out of the new modifications, so they will keep working to sort out a few minor issues and set-up changes to improve on these amazing results.
As always, the MDRA night events provide a spectacle that gets everyone off their seats. While the team thanked all those who showed up and the committee for a well organised event, they now look forward to the next event on 21 and 22 August, hopefuly edging closer to a new level and class.
