(0-1), (2-2), (1-2), (3-1)

GERALD FENECH

After Friday's win by Sliema over Neptunes, San Giljan were looking to overcome Sirens and join the two teams at the top of the table while Sirens, on their part, were hoping to remain in the hunt just two points off the pace with a win.

In the first session, San Giljan were a disoriented lot with Sirens, however, failing to capitalise on a number of man up situations to come their way. They managed the only goal of the session through Baranyi as San Giljan failed to register a single shot on goal.

The second session proved better for San Giljan as they scored twice although Sirens also kept up the tempo with two goals of their own. The St Paul's Bay boys effected an excellent press completely restricting San Giljan's marksmen Matthew Zammit and Serbian Vasovic to rare shots from outside the two metre zone.

The third session saw San Giljan equalise through Vasovic but Sirens came back with two fine goals from Mercieca and Cutajar. A missed penalty from Vasovic to make it 5-4 left the Saints trying to recover a two-goal deficit in the final session.

The final session was an animated affair with San Giljan taking the lead for the first time in the match with three goals by Zammit (2) and Vasovic but Sirens managed to equalise through Marcz and although there were some nail-biting moments at the end, the sharing of the spoils was the final outcome.

Division 2

In the second division match between Marsaxlokk and Ta' Xbiex, honours were just about even for most of the encounter as attacking prowess was few and far between. In fact the first two sessions produced just five goals between them with the Southseasiders edging ahead 3-2.

The third session was a much more animated affair finishing 5-4 in favour of Ta' Xbiex so that the score at the beginning of the final session was seven goals apiece.

The final session was also closely fought with both sides fighting hard for victory but in the end the draw was a fair result.
