The UHM will not withdraw a directive to airport immigration officers until they are given all the materials needed to protect them against swine flu.
The union last week told the immigration officers that in the wake of a failure by the authorities to give them protective means against the flu, they should wash their hands every 10 minutes. The directive found the opposition of the National Committee about the Pandemic, which asked the union to withdraw it.
The UHM said it felt it would have been far wiser had the committee called on the administration to provide the workers with hand rubs or liquids, seeing that immigration officers are exposed to contact with foreign passengers.
