Weaving A web of colours

Malta Independent Wednesday, 22 July 2009, 00:00 Last update: about 14 years ago

Young people in Tarxien are engaged on a project, “Weave a Web of Colours” to make others more aware of the importance of diversity. “With this we are promoting the inclusion that we ourselves are working for, especially regarding the immigrants who are coming to our country to escape their harsh realities and find a better life. Together we can weave a web of colours, form a rainbow and link our differences in one picture, differences which complement each other,” they said.

“If we look around, we see that everyone is different; from the way we think, react, and also from the way we look. This is called diversity, diversity which today is seen more often because the world is interacting more; people’s mobility is increasing, and so it is very important to appreciate this diversity more.”

The project is financed by the European Union through the “Youth in Action” programme. It has been going on for these last four months and will continue during the next two months. Some activities which have been carried out include sessions in which participants had the opportunity to get closer to various cultures and look at difficult situations in which different nations find themselves; poster and drama competitions which creatively express the values of equality; and an international games day for youth, held all around Tarxien.
