Local Football : Newly Promoted clubs in transfer market

Newly promoted Vittoriosa Stars and Dingli Swallows have emerged on the local transfer scene, signing foreign players.

Vittoriosa have signed the former Valletta and Hibernians midfielder Uzeh Edafe, from Nigeria.

The Stars, now under the charge of Winston Muscat, are doing their best to strengthen the team to have a positive season after so many years in the lower divisions. In fact, they are also reported to be negotiating the transfer of two young players from Premier League clubs.

On their part, Dingli, who left a good impression in the recent tournament against Floriana and England’s Sheffield Wednesday, have signed another Nigerian, Josef Okonkwo.

The Nigerian 22-year-old striker has signed a two-year deal, reaching agreement with the Swallows despite the interest among other clubs after he impressed in the tournament staged at the Victor Tedesco Stadium a few days ago.

Another player who performed for Dingli in that tournament, Dutchman Ricardo Macnack, is also expected to be offered a contract to play for the Swallows in the forthcoming Premier League.

The Swallows have already signed two local players in the form of former Valletta players Justin Muscat and Dylan Zarb.

Meanwhile, there have been a some moves among the other clubs as already reported in the press.

The most notable have been those seeing Dutch striker Sylvano Comvalius moving from Hamrun to Birkirkara, Bernard Paris, from Birkirkara to Floriana, Edward Herrera, from Melita to Hibernians, Martin Deanov, from Pieta to Marsaxlokk, Clayton Failla, from Hibernians to Sliema W., Josef Mifsud, from Valletta to Sliema W., Jean Pierre Mifsud Triganza, from Birkirkara to Sliema W., Karl Pulo, from Pieta to Birkirkara, Ryan Fenech, from Hamrun to Sliema W., Gianluca Calabretta, from Mosta to Tarxien R., Jordi Cruyff, Geert den Ouden (from The Netherlands) and Steve Borg (Mosta) to Valletta.
