The University Gymnasium was the venue for this season’s edition of the Malta National Junior Table Tennis tournament under the auspices of the MTTA.
Earlier this month, Malta’s best junior players vied for the honours, participating in numerous singles and doubles events.
Once again many Table Tennis Academy members featured prominently in all events, collecting top placings.
Andrea Portelli emerged winner in the Boys U13 event. Keith Van hear and Dylan Zammit were the formidable winners of the Boys U13 Doubles with Andrea Portelli and Jake Tabone as close runners up. Therese Genovese was runner up in the Girls U13 Singles.
In the Boys U15 events, Steve Bugeja was runner up in the Singles, whilst Ryan Tabone was runner up in the U15 Plate. TTA players Andrew Gambina and Daniel Bajada were Boys U15 Doubles winners with Steve Bugeja and James Dawson as the runners up.
Daniel Vella Fondacaro was runner up in the Boys U18 Singles, with the Doubles event being won by Andrew Gambina and Daniel Bajada; runners up were Daniel Fondacaro and Matthew Micallef. Upcoming Rosie Geraghty was runner up in the Girls U18 Singles.
Daniel Portelli won the Boys U21 Plate event whilst duo Daniel Vella Fondacaro and Matthew Micallef were champions in the Boys U21 Doubles event.
More recently Malta’s representative team for the FISEC games held in Portugal were exclusively TTA players – Chris Attard, James Dawson, Marcus Portelli and Andrea Portelli.
The TTA head coaches are Mario Genovese and Edward Baldacchino.
