The first meeting of Amputees4Amputees, an association which brings all amputees across Malta and Gozo together, was held on Saturday 25 October 2008.

Due to the eventual success of the first meeting, regular meetings started taking place soon after, and a committee, made up of five amputees and two professionals who work in the health sector, was made up.

The official launch of the association was last Saturday, 14 November. Attending the launch at Inspire (Razzett tal-Hbiberija) were Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi and his wife Kate Gonzi, Opposition Leader Joseph Muscat, ministers and several members of parliament.

Speaking on the day of the launch were Twanny Buhagiar, who spoke about his experience and how the association has helped him and president of the association Amy Joan Zahra, with Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi also taking the opportunity to say a few words.

The programme for the day was concluded by a song entitled Ghix llum (Live Today), sung by committee member Kristy Lee Seychell.
