Ouka Leele, a prestigious Spanish female photographer with an art career dating back to the late 70’s, ranks among the landmark figures of Europe as a contemporary of the American female artist Cindy Sherman. Born in Madrid in 1957, Ouka Leele’s universe has always been between two worlds, painting and photography, the earthly and the spiritual. Driven by the need of painting and the fascination with black and white photography, she fuses both techniques and develops her personal artistic language. This exhibition is presented in collaboration with the Spanish embassy on the occasion of the EU presidency.

DANCE

Cinderella on Ice

Seven tonnes of ice shall transform Valletta’s Mediterranean Conference Centre into a frozen Ice Palace. The world-famous St Petersburg State Ballet on Ice Theatre returns to Malta with a magical winter show this Christmas.

Standing Ovations have recently introduced a number of block buster shows to our Islands: The Best of China’s Monasteries by The Shaolin Monks, Europe’s biggest Freestyle Motocross Show ‘Masters of Dirt’, The Holy Mountain by The Shaolin Monks together with The Masters of Kalaripayattu from India... All of which left the audiences in awe, with ‘standing ovations’ at all times!

They dazzled us with The ‘Swan Lake on Ice’ last January 2009 and now the Russian dancers from The St Petersburg State Ballet On Ice are back with a jaw-dropping new show... ‘Cinderella On Ice’, at the Mediterranean Conference Centre, Valletta.

St James Cavalier, Valletta

A parallel world, 1860. Two teenagers thrown together by a tsunami that has destroyed Mau’s village and left Daphne shipwrecked on his South Pacific island, thousands of miles from home. One wears next to nothing, the other a long white dress; neither speaks the other’s language; somehow they must learn to survive. As starving refugees gather, Daphne delivers a baby, milks a pig, brews beer and does battle with a mutineer. Mau fights cannibal Raiders, discovers the world is round and questions the reality of his tribe’s fiercely patriarchal gods. Together they come of age, overseen by a foul-mouthed parrot, as they discard old doctrine to forge a new Nation. Following His Dark Materials, Coram Boy and War Horse, the National stages Mark Ravenhill’s exhilarating adaptation of Terry Pratchett’s latest witty and challenging adventure story.

Tickets: e15 Adults; e10 Children and Concessions; e10 Encore Performance*. The matinee is taking place at the National Theatre, London and broadcast live to cinema screens around the world.
