Further Appointments at Middlesea

Following the press release issued on 30 December announcing the appointment of Joseph F.X. Zahra as non-executive chairman designate, the Board of Directors of Middlesea Insurance has announced that the following appointments within the company have been proposed and/or confirmed and that the said appointments are subject to regulatory approval.

Anne Marie Tabone has been appointed Chief Operations Officer, Middlesea Insurance and retains her role as Chief Financial Officer. Ms Tabone holds a Bachelor in Accountancy Degree from the University of Malta and is a Certified Public Accountant. She joined Middlesea in 1986 and since then has played various roles within the Group including the enhancing of Middlesea’s computerised Accounting System, the floatation of Middlesea Insurance as a company listed on the Malta Stock Exchange, the setting up of the accounting functions for a specialized life company – an associate of Middlesea Group – Middlesea Valletta Life Assurance. She also contributed to a feasibility study carried out for the setting up of an insurance management company in Malta, International Insurance Management Services, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Middlesea Group of which she was appointed general manager in 2001. In 2007 she was appointed Group Chief Financial Officer of Middlesea Group. Recently, Ms Tabone also played an important role in the rights issue process.

David G. Curmi retains his role as Chief Executive Officer of Middlesea Valletta Life Assurance and of its subsidiary Growth Investments. Mr Curmi is also director of International Insurance Management Services, director of EuroMed Risk Solutions, director of Premium Realty, council member of the Malta Insurance Association, director of the Protection and Compensation Fund, chairman of L.B. Factors, associate of the Chartered Insurance Institute of the United Kingdom and a chartered insurer. Mr Curmi was previously managing director of Citadel Insurance Services and Citadel Insurance, director of Medpoint Insurance Brokers, director of Mediterranean Survey Bureau, president of the Malta Insurance Association, vice president of the Malta Chamber of Commerce, governor of Finance Malta.

Elizabeth Carbonaro has been appointed General Manager, International Insurance Management Services. Ms Carbonaro started her career in financial services in 1988 as an auditor with the local representative of PriceWaterhouse, subsequently leaving the local practice to join the Luxembourg practice in 1994. She returned to PwC Malta in 1997 as a senior manager, managing the audits of several large local groups and financial institutions. She joined the Middlesea Group in February 2000, heading the finance department of the group, a position she currently holds as Chief Officer – Group Finance. She is also responsible for the operations of EuroMed Risk Solutions. Ms Carbonaro is a Fellow of the Chartered Association of Certified Accountants and a Fellow of the Malta Institute of Accountants. She is also a Certified Public Accountant and a member of the finance committee of the Malta Insurance Association
