As part of its stategy to lead international business, HSBC Malta is supporting Malta Enterprise to attract trade between Malta and India. As Malta Enterprise’s main sponsor, HSBC in fact was part of a trade delegation which visited the main Indian cities of Mumbai and Delhi headed by the Maltese High Commissioner to India Wilfred Kenely late last year.

India is an emerging economic giant and is well on the way to becoming one of the world’s largest trading partners. Due to its prominent presence in both India and Malta and through its Leading International Business philosophy and the extensive worldwide network, HSBC is excellently positioned to offer support to local businessmen who intend to start new ventures with Indian counterparts or to strengthen existing ties. The expanding Indian economy is presenting local businessman with very attractive opportunities to enhance business with this emerging nation.

This was the main theme of two seminars organised by HSBC Malta in both Mumbai and Delhi. The seminar in Mumbai was addressed by Mr Richard J Cottell, Head of Commercial Banking at HSBC Malta, and by Abhijeet Sengupta from HSBC India’s Trade Services who delivered a presentation on ‘Doing Business in India’.

In Delhi, Mr Charles Cini, Head of International Banking Centre HSBC Malta, delivered a presentation entitled ‘Doing Business in Malta’.

Both seminars were well attended by Maltese and Indian businessmen and a number of contacts were established. To further enhance this networking exercise, two receptions were hosted by HSBC in the evenings subsequent to each seminar.

HSBC officials also took the opportunity to conduct a courtesy visit to the Toly Products manufacturing facility at Dehradun.

HSBC Malta will continue to support Maltese commercial delegations planned for 2010. It will also continue to follow up on the contacts established with the aim of supporting both incoming and outbound international trade deals.
