As the keyboard/synth player of the band Structure in the mid 1980s, Pierre was responsible for penning all their melodic pop-rock songs like Personal Message, Shout and Problems For Tomorrow. These hits determined the band’s influence on the rock scene of the time. Pierre also had a personal collaboration with singer Mark Tonna as Megapulse in the early 1990s, resulting in the release of one of the first CDs on the island.
Together with David Cassar Torregiani, Pierre formed Scar in the late 1990s, and was responsible for the band’s first local success Calling Out.
He then moved on to play with drummer/percussionist Fish in a band called Earth, together with Kathy Manuel. Pierre has finally taken an evolutionary step forward and as a solo artist released his debut CD called Real Life, under the name My Freespirit. When asked to explain the move, Pierre admitted that this had been brewing in his mind for quite some time. As a solo artist, he was now free to write all the music and lyrics as well as interpret them in a more intimate way.
This freedom of expression has allowed him to treat any subject he wished and convey messages in his songs without limitations.... hence becoming a true Freespirit. The debut CD Real Life is practically a concept album about personal experiences that have had an impact on Pierre, and deal with sensitive issues such as the terminally ill and the outcasts of society. It also pays tribute to the Tsunami victims and a special dedication to his mother, Everyday, which was incidentally released as the first single from this project, a few months ago. Pierre is presently busy preparing for the video of the title track Real Life, which he hopes to release later this year.
Recorded at Mandala studios, this album is produced by Kathy Manuel and Jewls Verse. While Pierre plays most instruments, there is also an impressive list of collaborations by Liam, Mark Tonna, and Mike and George Hersey.
Real Life is dedicated to the late Dave Goodman, producer of Sex Pistols and Kathy’s life long soul mate, with whom Pierre had the opportunity to play, and to Anne Caruana, simply the most caring mother any son could ever hope for.
