At the end of last month, a unique concert was organised by St Joseph Band Club of Ghaxaq together with Wilfred Spiteri, in the small village of Ghaxaq. The band that was invited was none other than the Scandinavian Pink Floyd Project. This band which hails from Denmark, gave a three-hour concert during which they played songs by the legendary group, Pink Floyd. This concert was organised as part of the St Joseph feast celebrations in Ghaxaq.

Entrance for all those who attended the concert was free, however, everyone was asked to give a donation which would then be passed on to the Dar tal-Providenza. On the eve of the concert, some Scandinavian Pink Floyd Project band members visited the Dar tal-Providenza where they were welcomed by its director, Fr Martin Micallef. During their visit they were also given a warm welcome by the home’s residents.

The Scandinavian Pink Floyd Project in Malta consisted of 14 members: 10 performed on stage, while the other four were responsible for the lighting and sound required during the concert. Apart from the band, a children’s choir also took part in the concert as an accompaniment to the band during the songs Another Brick in the Wall and Run like Hell. A lot of the choir’s members were children from Ghaxaq itself.

All those who attended had words of praise not only for the Scandinavian Pink Floyd Project but also for the exceptional spectacle of lighting and the sound system used. In fact, a quadrophonic system was used during the show, which was instrumental in the setting up of a great concert. Everyone could enjoy the dazzling atmosphere which was created together with the great Pink Floyd music. The concert was topped off with a pyrotechnical show, produced by the St Joseph Ghaxaq Fireworks Factory.

It is estimated that a crowd of 10,000 people from all over Malta attended. It is thanks to all these people that during the show, a sum of €10,994 was collected. This sum was officially passed on to Fr Micallef, Director of Dar tal-Providenza, by Marvic Abela, president of St Joseph Ghaxaq Band Club and Mr Spiteri, one of the main organisers of the event. This took place during a musical band concert organised by the St Joseph Band Club, on the occasion of the feast of St Joseph.
