Malta’s most powerful and influential radio station, Xfm 100.2, recently announced their new autumn/winter schedule. After spending summer in a relatively subdued state of transmission, the station has re-launched itself under the guidance of its new management and exploded back onto the scene. The central focus of its programming has now shifted towards not only providing listeners with the very best in audio entertainment, but also using its position within the media to create awareness of specific global and social issues that are essential for a better way of life.
“We felt it was high time that local media maximised its potential within the industry to serve the community by educating both listeners and readers alike on how each one of us can help improve the state of our environment,” said Gabriella Borg Bonaci, the new director of Xfm. “Climate change is one of the greatest challenges facing the world today and Xfm 100.2 intends to play a key role in helping the nation tackle the issue,” she continued.
Alvin Cacciattolo, Gabriella’s partner added: “It’s also our duty to help strive for a degree of tolerance among us all, to accept everyone for who they are, regardless of race, religion, origin, age, gender, marital status, colour, sexual orientation or disability.
Radio is the last free medium and we’re determined to provide the best possible service to all and sundry.”
The new Xfm Big Breakfast features none other than co-hosts Jean Claude Micallef and Angele Galea. Jean Claude’s name has become synonymous with major events such as The Malta TV Awards (One TV), The Malta Music Awards (TVM), Leone Goes Pop and Miss Italia Nel Mondo, not to mention the awards he won for The People’s Favourite – Net TV presenter and The People’s Favourite – Favourite Channel presenter.
Angele is also a familiar face, after hosting Showtime (One TV) and appearing in numerous commercials. However, she is best known for her extensive acting roles which haves seen her appear in an abundance of local and international productions.
Both presenters made the switch to Xfm during the summer and after undergoing extensive training sessions, they went on air to rave reviews which are already hailing them as the best thing to happen to breakfast radio in ages.
Oz and Jay will be reunited in the coming weeks to provide us with an even bigger Big Drive Home. Both need no introduction, with the eagerly awaited return of their highly successful partnership scheduled to air every Monday to Friday between 3.30pm and 6.30pm.
Additional presenters include Xfm stalwarts Chris Camilleri, Malcolm Galea, Corrine Muscat, David D, Andre Bugeja, Colin Fitz and Planet Dave who join Stevy Vee, international DJ Brian Cheatham, Above & Beyond plus newbies Joe Spiteri and Albert B (Chunky).
