The highlight of World Youth Day 2011 will be a fortnight in Madrid, Spain, but before that the participating youths will be preparing themselves for this experience through a series of activities which are aimed at strengthening the young people’s personal relationship with Christ in a community environment.
The experience actually started on 13 August, in Mgarr, Malta. The WYD Tent is being set up in every district and, in fact, the first one has already been held in the sixth district, which represents the south.
In the weekend between 26 and 28 November, the activities will take place in the third district, which includes Mosta, Naxxar, Gharghur, Mgarr, Manikata, Burmarrad, Qawra and Bugibba, St Paul’s Bay and Mellieha.
At 8.30 pm of Friday, 26 November, there will be the celebration of the Holy Eucharist at the Qawra church animated by the group Footprints. Mass will be followed by a pilgrimage which will start in Qawra and end in Mosta.
On Saturday, 27 November, an afternoon movie and forum will be held at the Sacred Heart Oratory, Mosta, at 2pm. In the evening, starting at 7pm, a Christian party will be held at Naxxar Oratory. Two DJs are looking forward to spice up this party.
On Sunday, 28 November, a youth breakfast will be held at 9am at Mosta Square. Then, at 11am there will be Mass at the Mosta parish church, animated by Mgarr Youths. The evening will bring the activities to a close with a concert by the group The Prophecy, the recital of the Vespers by the Burmarrad Youth and the participation of the singer Maria Lewis. This event will be held at the Sacred Heart Oratory, Mosta. The weekend activities will be under the patronage of the Archbishop of Malta, Mgr Paul Cremona, OP.
