Residents and visitors to the Cottonera Waterfront were surprised to see the Macina building lit up by blue floodlights and many wondered if the colour was a political statement of some sort. In fact it was not, the lighting was part of the decorations to celebrate the 15th anniversary of advertising company Logix Communications Ltd – and blue happens to be their corporate colour.

Since it was built in the early 17th century to enable ships’ masts to be replaced, the building has served various purposes, including head office of the Admiralty, stores, a trade school and Malta Labour Party HQ, before it was taken over by the Macina Development Co. Ltd.

“We are currently working with our clients to promote the building for new investment and we took the opportunity to hold our anniversary event here,” explained company director Keith Pillow. This was no easy task and the company’s staff, together with various suppliers and sponsors, worked for weeks to clean and decorate the interior and get it ready for the event. Various displays were set up to illustrate the company’s history from its humble beginnings in 1995 to the present day. The company’s graphic and interior designers set up various displays and art installations to create a unique ambience that was further enhanced by subdued coloured lighting.

The installations included one made by designer Ania Kharytonova composed of over 9,000 paper cups. This is the company’s homage to coffee, which is an integral ingredient of its incessant creativity over the past 15 years.
