Michele Chiarlo’s Seminar in Malta

Malta Independent Tuesday, 1 February 2011, 00:00 Last update: about 13 years ago

Attard & Co. Foodstuffs recently welcomed the owner of one of Italy’s prestigious wine companies, Michele Chiarlo, together with his family, some of his team and representatives from European countries.

This event was held for the first time last year in Piedmont by Michele Chiarlo to show his appreciation to the distributing partners for the past years and also give an overview of the new business strategies for the upcoming year.

Attard & Co. Foodstuffs, who have been representing Michele Chiarlo since 2001, were honoured to be the hosts of the second edition of this event.

Michele Chiarlo wine company was founded in 1956 by Michele and Giuseppina Chiarlo in Calamandrana on the border between Monferrato and the Langhe. Over the years this family business grew and success paved the way to the acquisition of the finest vineyards sites in Barolo and Rovereto, in the Gavi area, the construction of a new winery, cellars and bottling facilities and the purchase of a new estate in the Barbera d’Asti zone. In the late 1960s Michele Chiarlo’s wines were already considered of excellent quality which gradually led to the distribution in countries such as Germany, Belgium and Great Britain.

Michele & Giuseppina’s passion for wine has been instilled in their two sons, Alberto and Stefano, who joined the firm in the early 1990s, and together they focused on one philosophy: to produce wines whose characteristics represent their variety of provenance and their terroir. Alberto is responsible for the sales and marketing while Stefano, a qualified oenologist, manages the vineyard operations and production in the cellars.

Michele Chiarlo has a well-established reputation for superior quality wines. He is today a respected wine producer and a leading figure in the wine industry.

An introduction to the event was held at the Radisson Golden Sands Resort followed by dinner at Grabiel Restaurant in Marsascala where Chef Giovanni Bianco prepared an exquisite Mediterranean menu to pair with five outstanding Michele Chiarlo wines namely ‘Rovereto’ Gavi del comune di Gavi, ‘Le Orme’ Barbera d’Asti¸ Barolo ‘Cerequio’, ‘Reyna’ Barbaresco and ‘Nivole’ Moscato d’Asti.

This two-day seminar was complemented with a gastronomy and wine cultural tour in Gozo. A visit to Ta’ Mena Wine Estate in Marsalforn Valley showcased the best of what the estate has to offer. The group could savour and delight authentic Gozitan cuisine by Chef George Borg at Ta’ Mena Agritourism Complex.

This event came to an end at Ta’ Frenc Restaurant in Xaghra, Gozo with a dinner created by the talented Chef Mario Schembri who carefully designed a menu to accompany the selected Michele Chiarlo wines: ‘Le Marne’ Gavi, Vigne di Chiarlo, ‘La Court’ Barbera d’Asti, Cannubi, Barolo Chinato and Grappa di Nivole.
