Chris Cassar the proprietor of Porto Vecchio Ristorante e Vinoteca on the seafront at the yacht marina in Mgarr, Gozo in collaboration with S. Rausi Trading Ltd. recently organised a dinner event with Donnafugata wines from Sicily. It was a full-house attendance – 52 guests to be precise – many of them from Gozo.
The delicious menu included Antipasto Misto con Verdura alla Griglia served with a Polena (White). The starters were Mussels and Prawns Mousse topped with caviar, served with croutons on a scallop shell or Orecchiette served with a duck and tomato based sauce. Those who opted for the pasta dish were served Donna fugata’s Sedara Red while the seafood dish was served with white wine.
The main course was either Fillet of Fresh Fish, rolled with salmon and Spinach topped with Salsa Verde served with La Fuga White. Those who opted for the Loin of veal topped with a reduction of white wine, white grapes, raisins and pine nuts were served Sherazade Red. The sweets of the day were accompanied by Kabir, a naturally sweet Donnafugata wine.
Raymond Grech, the chef and his assistant Christian were heartily congratulated for the delicious dinner.
Many of the ingredients used in the kitchen of Porto Vecchio are imported directly from the Friuli region in Italy as are the salamis and the variety of cheeses. The Donnafugata wines were thoroughly enjoyed both by those who were already aquainted with them and with newcomers.
Their varied menu of antipasto, soups, pasta, fresh fish and meat is prepared with passion by our chef and his team, the Italian way “alla buona”, to be enjoyed with a nice bottle of wine from their extensive selection available. Flambe’ cooking by one’s table and fresh fish are their speciality. Be it a Sunday lunch, a special occasion or just an evening out, enjoy the comfortable, warm and friendly atmosphere that this restaurant offers.
