The Institute of Maltese Journalism (IĠM) presented a copy of the book ‘Lost Maltese Newspapers of the 19th Century’ authored by Prof. Arnold Cassola to Franco Aloisio, Head of Communications at HSBC Bank Malta, in recognition of the Bank’s sponsorship of the Malta Journalism Awards (MJA), print journalism – news category.
The book is published by the Tumas Fenech Foundation for Education in Journalism (FTFEĠ) and it covers topics including the clashes between the Catholic Church and Protestant missionaries throughout the 19th century, the distinguished contributions of Rev. Giuseppe Zammit (known as Brighella) and Vincenzo Azzopardi, and an analysis of the newspaper Nafras u Colombu.
While thanking Mr Naudi for the contribution, Mr Aloisio said: “This publication is a must-have for Melitensia enthusiasts. The book highlights the cultural currents and the lively debates which unfolded in the 19th century Maltese print media. HSBC Bank Malta recognises that in the present, as much as in the past, the print media plays an important role which the Bank willingly supports.”
This is the 21st edition of the MJA. The print journalism - news category sponsored by HSBC Bank Malta rewards journalists for their best news items in print journalism over the previous year.
