The Malta Stock Exchange Index continued to climb on Friday, gaining over five points, or 0.2 per cent, to end at 3,344.720 as trading volume returned to robust levels with 104,558 shares changing hands across 48 deals. On Thursday, the MSE added 28 points, or 0.9 per cent on low volume of 15,928 shares.
Leading the day’s advance were the shares of Middlesea Insurance plc, which added 3c, or 3.0 per cent, to close at €1.030 in four trades for a total of 5,304 shares.
GO plc shares continued to gain yesterday, adding 3c, or 2.2 per cent, to end the session at €1.380. Volume was moderate as 8,860 shares across eleven deals were traded. On Thursday, GO gained 1c, or 0.8 per cent, on volume of 6,750 shares.
Shares of the local postal operator, MaltaPost plc, added 1c5, or 1.5 per cent, to close at €1.015. Trading was relatively moderate as seven trades for a total of 8,043 shares.
Stock of the IT services company, Crimsonwing plc, also finished in positive territory by gaining 0c5, or 1.4 per cent, to end the session at €0.355 in two deals for a total of 30,000 shares.
Also higher was the stock of the local airport operator, Malta International Airport plc, which gained 1c, or 0.6 per cent, to end at €1.710 in light volume of 4,200 shares across two deals.
Simonds Farsons Cisk plc shares added 1c, or 0.6 per cent, to end the week at €1.710 while stock of Grand Harbour Marina plc was up a marginal 0c2, or 0.1 per cent, to finish at €1.970, in three deals for a total of 7,000 shares.
The sole loser on the day was the stock of HSBC Bank Malta plc, which fell by 1c, or 0.3 per cent, to end at €2.900 in seven deals for a total of 15,410 shares.
The other shares to see action in the last session of the week were those of Bank of Valletta plc and International Hotel Investments plc, which closed at €2.700 and €0.820, respectively, on volume of 7,460 shares and 15,615 shares, respectively.
