Best-ever First-half sales for Hyundai in Europe

Malta Independent Wednesday, 20 July 2011, 00:00 Last update: about 15 years ago

Hyundai has registered its best-ever first-half performance in Europe, selling over 200.000 units during the period for the first time. According to data from ACEA, Hyundai sold 208.225 units from January to June this year, recording a 9,1% increase over the same period in 2010 and taking a 2,8% market share.

The record achievement comes as Hyundai once again outperformed the European new car market – for the 30th consecutive month – with the 36.811 units sold in June representing a 9,8% increase over sales in the same month last year. The market, meanwhile, was down by 8,1% in the month.

Hyundai’s best-selling car in Europe for the first six months of 2011 was the i30. The Europe-built model, which celebrates its fourth birthday this month, has sold over 50.000 units year-to-date. The ix35 continues to attract people with its combination of dynamic styling, high quality, class-leading fuel efficiency and high-tech features, and sold almost 40.000 units in the first half of the year.

This month the all-new i40 goes on sale in Europe, taking Hyundai into a new market with a D-segment wagon designed and developed specifically for Europe.

Allan Rushforth, senior vice-president and COO at Hyundai Motor Europe, commented, “In the first half of 2011 we’ve continued our record-breaking performance of 2010 and we’re delighted to reach 200.000 units in the period for the first time.

“We have a strong product portfolio, which continues to attract new buyers to the brand and gives us a platform from which to reach new heights in Europe. Our new models continue to change perceptions of Hyundai for European consumers, who now choose our cars with their hearts as well as their heads. The i40 will continue this trend, playing a key role in our aim to achieve 3% market share for the full year.”

As with all new Hyundai models introduced since the beginning of 2010, the i40 will come with Hyundai’s comprehensive Five Year Triple Care assurance package, so European buyers will benefit from its five-year unlimited warranty, five years’ roadside assistance, and five years of vehicle health checks.
