Sergio Grasso’s first book Imrar (Bitterness), published by the author himself, printed by Printwell Ltd. and distributed by Miller Distrubutors Ltd., is out on sale at leading book shops.
This book, which consists of novels and verses, takes Sergio back ten years, while still a student at St. Aloysius’ College. The reader immediately realises the author’s fascination for the macabre. The book is full of everyday instances, strange endings and none the less expected. One can feel the negative side of the author such as anger in his writing. All this gives the reader a chance to ask questions related to our existence.
With cannibalistic, masochistic and sadistic themes, Imrar, probably Sergio’s favourite, depicts the formation of a young lad’s character with a great wish to live and not to just exist. Id-Darsa (The Molar) introduces us to someone who learns a lesson through a bad experience. In this novel, we also find several internal conflicts.
Sergio chooses to give four kisses to his wife Maryanne (the designer of the book’s cover and drawings) in a poem with extreme thoughts. Further on in the book, we see the opposite and soft side of the author when he addresses his two cats whom he calls his children. He shares with them his fear of death whilst at the same time respecting their innocence. In his last writing, a poem in which the author again makes use of an apostrophe, once again, Sergio is bitter and angry towards life.
“Sergio Grasso’s work confirms how for some people horror may be used as a channel to dissipate their unforbidden thoughts which lie deep in their unconscious. This does not imply that they will follow through and act out such fantasies, although it has happened on rare occasions.” – Dr. E. Curmi – Psychologist and Psychotherapist
Through his book, Sergio Grasso allows his readers to peep into his written thoughts and are they to blame if they get carried away emotionally and start looking at life from a different point of view? Some of his ideas are now for sale at all leading sellers - Imrar
