Hotel Guests’ small change adds up for children

Malta Independent Thursday, 13 October 2011, 00:00 Last update: about 13 years ago

Guests staying at Hilton Malta will be using their small change to make a big difference to disadvantaged children this winter, as part of Hilton in the Community Foundation’s annual fund-raising campaign.

“Small Change, Big Difference” is running in Malta throughout this month and in November and December. The campaign invites guests staying at selected Hilton Worldwide hotels in Europe to add an optional €1 onto their room bill during their stay. Thanks to the generosity of these guests the campaign has raised more than €1 million for children’s charities since its inception in 2004.

All proceeds raised from the campaign in Malta will be used to support Inspire, the charity which provides support, therapeutic courses, and equipment for children and young people with disabilities in Malta.

Clement Hassid. general manager, Hilton Malta said, “This is a wonderful campaign and one that I hope our generous guests will support once again. It’s incredible that such a simple concept has already raised more than €1 million to help Hilton in the Community Foundation ensure that disadvantaged children receive the support that they need. Through this fantastic initiative small change really can add up to make a real difference to children’s lives.”

In total, 147 hotels in 20 countries will be involved in the programme this year helping to maximise the money raised.

Hilton in the Community Foundation was founded in 2000 as Hilton Worldwide’s charity vehicle in Europe dedicated to supporting young people in need by combating exclusion and providing skills, aspirations and opportunities. Focussed on improving access to, and the quality of, education and healthcare, the Foundation mobilises local giving and targets four key areas: disabled children, children in hospitals, children’s hospices and homelessness. Grants help vulnerable and disadvantaged young people in Europe, while in the event of international disaster grants are made to relief organisations addressing young people’s needs.
