Bike Ride in aid of Istrina 2011

Malta Independent Monday, 24 October 2011, 00:00 Last update: about 14 years ago

Following last year’s success of the 1st Bike Ride in aid of l-Istrina, The Air Malta Sports & Social Committee and SITA’s Malta office have again reunited to organise the Bike Ride in aid of l-iStrina, aiming to double last year’s participation.

This year’s edition of the bike ride will be held on 30 October. This year cyclists will be welcomed at San Anton Palace, from where the ride will start, by President George Abela.

Registration will be made at 8am and the bike ride will start at around 8.30am. Cyclists will leave San Anton Gardens and proceed to Mosta, Naxxar and Ta’ Qali where a pit-stop for water will be set up.

The second part of the ride will take cyclists to Mtarfa, Mdina, Rabat, Attard and then back to San Anton Gardens, covering around 20 kilometers. The participants will be led by the Mosta Cycling Club support car and the police.

At the end of the event, cyclists will be given a certificate of attendance as a token for their participation, and some freebies.

Thanks to two cycling enthusiasts from SITA, last year’s ride saw 105 cyclists coming together to take part in this event. A number of Air Malta and SITA staff, along with their relatives and friends as well as a good number of local cyclist enthusiasts of all ages, from local cycling clubs and amateurs, turned up to make the ride a successful one.

The sum of €1,050 was collected during last year’s bike ride. This was presented to the Malta Community Chest Fund during the annual charity event l-iStrina held during the Christmas season.
