The Thrill of the auction continues

Malta Independent Sunday, 30 October 2011, 00:00 Last update: about 12 years ago

Auction aficionados know full well what a good auction is all about, and the thrill that runs through the room as the auctioneer is about to strike the hammer on a strongly contended item.

It takes time, hard work and experience to organise a well-structured and professional auction that is a pleasure to attend even if one is not intending to make a purchase. There is something exciting and intriguing about auctions that excites regulars and entices newcomers to this genre of sale– it is the thrill of the hunt, the lure of the unexpected, the satisfaction of having discovered an object that will complement a collection, fit perfectly into one’s décor or even become the perfect gift for the connoisseur who has just about everything.

Throughout 2011, the list of successful auctions organised by Obelisk Auctioneers and Valuers is impressive and includes the auctioning of antique furniture, fine art, old master paintings, arms and militaria, Melitensia, industrial and catering machinery and equipment, automobiles, as well as a series of Judicial Sales by Auction.

Firmly established as one of Malta’s most trusted auction organisers, Pierre Grech Pillow of Obelisk Auctions has set up base in one of the loveliest old buildings of Attard. This central address houses the Obelisk Gallery and Offices, and includes a professionally set up gallery of auction rooms that allow interested visitors to view items due to be auctioned in the near future.

In line with its style of forward thinking, Obelisk recently introduced the Obelisk Auctions Jewellery Department, seen as instrumental towards bringing the auction house closer to international auctioning standards.

The Obelisk Jewellery Department will be organising specialised vintage and fine jewellery auctions that will place rare and top quality antique jewellery and newer items up for sale.

At the same time, the Obelisk Jewellery Department is also planning to invite members of the public to attend a series of forthcoming talks specifically dedicated to jewellery, touching upon history, styles, techniques, design and designers.

These talks will be announced to the public through the media, however interested persons should contact the Obelisk Jewellery Department so as to be included on the mailing list.

For further information and for viewing appointments contact the Obelisk Auctions Gallery on 99498836. For enquiries about the jewellery auctions and talks call 79663266
