“The Cavalieri Hotel in St Julian’s will be hosting a nine-day marathon of family fun activities between Saturday, 26 November and Sunday, 4 December in an effort to raise funds for the L-Istrina mill-Qalb campaign 2011. Entitled ‘Get active for L-Istrina’ the marathon is aimed at encouraging families to participate in a variety of events which will raise funds towards this worthy cause.” This was announced by Mr. Mark Camilleri, General Manager of the Cavalieri Hotel during the official launch of the marathon, which was presided by Mrs. Margaret Abela, Deputy Chairperson of The Malta Community Chest Fund.

In her address Mrs Abela thanked the management and staff of The Cavalieri Hotel for taking such an initiative.

Mr. Camilleri said that “The organisation of this marathon is part of the Cavalieri management and staff’s commitment to support the L-Istrina campaign and to contribute to this very worthy cause aimed at helping to improve the lives of children, individuals and families within our community. We would like to thank all the personalities, entertainers and organisers who believed in this cause and are giving up their time free of charge. These include, JP Advertising, Deceduti and Zoo personalities, Tonio Darmanin of Paq Paq and Moira Delia, without the support of these people we would not have had such a diverse programme.

Mr Camillieri added that “In preparation for this event we have done our utmost to select different activities which would appeal to a diverse audience and age groups. In fact the activities which are spread evenly over the nine days include cooking, dancing, football, music marathons, art exhibitions, food market, pet walks and animal blessing, pool table marathon, live art for kids and gymnastics amongst others. The marathon is open to all families in Malta and Gozo who can choose to participate in one of more events. The funds will be raised through a participation fee which each and every participant will have to pay.”

The launch was followed by a preview of the more than 30 activities that will take place during the fund raising marathon including live cooking, gymnastics, kids art and other activities.
